Our mission is to empower democratic societies to navigate digital change. We do this through innovative research of the information ecosystem, direct policy engagement, creative storytelling, and broad public engagement and deliberation.
Who We Are
The rapidly shifting digital landscape is reshaping our society, our economy, and our democracy. The Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy (CMTD) at McGill University is an interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to understanding and responding to the social, political, and policy challenges posed by our evolving information ecosystem and digital technologies.

Empirical Observatory
The Centre's Media Ecosystem Observatory is one of the most comprehensive data collection efforts of its kind in the world, studying how information actually flows through Canadian democracy.
Policy-Engaged Research
Our policy practice turns research evidence into action. We use our comparative policy research, policy evaluation, and legislative design to inform policy processes.
Public Engagement & Media Capacity
We ensure our work reaches a broad audience through reports, policy memos, and a strong media presence. Through our partner non-profit, Paradigms, we produce podcasts, conferences, and video series.
